Mainstreaming Sustainable Solutions: Businesses, Public Sector Must Act Now

Excerpt from the Ignite talk at the Innovate4Climate event on 27th March 2021

Climate change is a threat multiplier that could push millions of people into poverty over the next decade. To address it, we need climate action for green, resilient, inclusive development .

Climate action means investing in renewable energy, clean transport, resilient cities, efficient manufacturing, sustainable food, and land use.

To maintain the global temperature increase below 1.5°C level, we need sustainable solutions in use. There are many alternative sustainable solutions available around the world today. Yet, surprisingly, these existing solutions are yet to be the mainstream products/services.

Why existing sustainable solutions are not being able to become mainstream? Is it only the profitability of the business or is it also the consumer behaviour that is the hinder?

We need to find out the answer to these fundamental questions. Mainstreaming the existing sustainable solutions while finding the new ones are the right path towards our desired destination.

Few days back, I wrote a blog about the progress status of Sustainable Development Goals and mentioned some ideas to accelerate the pace. Read here.

It was a great privilege and honour for such a great opportunity. And of course, a big congratulations to everyone for arranging such an insightful and inspiring event successfully.

INNOVATE4CLIMATE (#I4C), hosted by the World Bank Group, is an annual global conference on climate finance, climate investment and climate markets. Launched in 2017, I4C brings together thought leaders interested in linking climate innovation with investment opportunities – transforming dialogue into action.

Watch the recorded session from the youtube link (The link should take you close to the speech, if not then find my speech at this duration 1:13:29); More insightful discussions are there too.

It was indeed an honour to see Connect4Climate tweeted quoting the key message. Connect4Climate is part of United Nations Climate Change. They are connecting a diverse network of over 500 partners worldwide to amplify youth voices and drive climate action.

To put this into context: they also tweeted quoting (later on) Patricia Espinosa (Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change) who was the last speaker of the session.

Enough has been talked about. Instead of exponential change, we can still go for consistent incremental change to for a sustainable transformation.
